چکیده

We report the discovery of propeller-driven outflows in axisymmetric magnetohydrodynamic simulations of disk accretion to rapidly rotating magnetized stars. Matter outflows in a wide cone and is centrifugally ejected from the inner regions of the disk. Closer to the axis there is a strong, collimated, magnetically dominated outflow of energy and angular momentum carried by the open magnetic field lines from the star. The “efficiency” of the propeller may be very high in the respect that most of the incoming disk matter is expelled from the system in winds. The star spins-down rapidly due to the magnetic interaction with the disk through closed field lines and with corona through open field lines. Diffusive and viscous interaction between magnetosphere and the disk are important: no outflows were observed for very small values of the diffusivity and viscosity. These simulation results are applicable to the early stages of evolution of classical T Tauri stars and to different stages of evolution of cataclysmic variables and neutron stars in binary systems. As an example, we have shown that young rapidly rotating magnetized CTTSs spin-down to their present slow rotation in less than 10 years.

Launching of Jets by Propeller Mechanism

We carried out axisymmetric simulations of disk accretion to a rapidly rotating magnetized star in the “propeller” regime. Simulations show that propellers may be “weak” (with no outflows), and “strong” (with outflows). Investigation of the difference between these two regimes have shown that outflows appear only in the case where the “friction” between the disk and magnetosphere is sufficientl...

Magnetic Propeller Outflows 3

A model is developed for magnetic 'propeller'-driven outflows which cause a rapidly rotating magnetized star accreting from a disk to spin-down. Energy and angular momentum lost by the star goes into expelling most of the accreting disk matter. The theory gives an expression for the effective Alfvén radius R A (where the inflowing matter is effectively stopped) which depends on the mass accreti...

Feedback from Supercritical Disk Accretion Flows; Two-dimensional Radiation-hydrodynamic Simulations of Stable and Unstable Disks with Radiatively Driven Outflows

The supercritical disk accretion flow with radiatively driven outflows is studied based on twodimensional radiation-hydrodynamic simulations for a wide range of the mass input rate, Ṁinput, which is the mass supplied from the outer region to the disk per unit time. The α-prescription is adopted for the viscosity. We employ α = 0.5, as well as α = 0.1 for Ṁinput ≥ 3 × 10 LE/c 2 and only α = 0.5 ...

Effect of the temperature profile of the accretion disk on the structure of jets and outflows around protostars

Magnetic fields play an important role in creating, driving, and in the evolution of outflows and jets from protostars and accretion disks. On the other hand, the temperature profile of the accretion disks may also affect the structure of the magnetic field and outflows. In this paper, we use the self-similar method in cylindrical coordinates to investigate the effect of the temperature profile...

Outflow driven by a Giant Protoplanet

We investigate outflows driven by a giant protoplanet using three-dimensional MHD nested grid simulations. We consider a local region around the protoplanet in the protoplanetary disk, and calculate three models: (a) unmagnetized disk model, (b) magnetized disk model having magnetic field azimuthally parallel to the disk, and (c) magnetic field perpendicular to the disk. Outflows with velocitie...
